"Always in our Hearts"
Raja Yatawara
April 17 1939 - September 20 1981
Raja was an inspiration to all those around him. A chartered Civil Engineer by profession, Raja completed his Masters degree in Public Health Engineering at the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne in the UK. Accompanied by his wife and two children, Raja lived and worked in Sri Lanka, UK, Uganda, Malawi, and Tanzania. His untimely death while an expatriate in Tanzania was a shock to everyone. He was a gentleman in every sense of the word, a loving husband, a father, a trailblazer and mentor to his siblings. Through his aspirations towards holding prominent positions in United Nations and the WHO, the world lost a genuine figure of change for a better future far too early. He is deeply missed by everyone who knew him.

Birthday Anniversary
My Daddy’s Birthday anniversary was on April 19th. I still miss my darling daddy and though I couldn’t post on that day, this past Father’s Day I thought about how blessed I was to have an such an amazing, smart and loving father - even if for only nine years of my life. I missed out on so many milestones with him, but I still am grateful that my memories of my Daddy are filled with caring and special times. I remember how he loved the picture adventure stories of Tintin series and those of Obelix and Asterix, and how some weekends he would read these aloud to my younger brother and I , who were seated snugly on either side of him. He would voice out Captain Haddock’s crusty exclamations with lively humor and zest, to the delight of my brother and me … who would listen enraptured!
I eagerly bought these series for my own children, as my son especially showed interest in reading picture/ cartoon books.
And though I didn’t read aloud to them, I still hold these books and the special memories they hold for me of my beloved Daddy.
Memories of the last months in Dar-Es-Salaam with him.
